Prior to working in the clinic, Irene's students have been thoroughly trained in Swedish massage. They have been in school for a minimum of five months before beginning their clinic requirements. While in class during this part of their education, they are learning an abundance of therapeutic techniques to best accommodate their client's needs. Faculty supervisors are always present in the clinic and available to answer questions.
Please arrive 15 minutes prior to your appointment time to complete health information forms. The Student Clinic has a 24 hour cancellation policy.
Privacy and Draping
Prior to your massage you will be asked to complete a health history form. Your student therapist will privately review this with you to answer any questions. Then you will be left in your treatment room to remove all jewelry and clothing to your level of comfort. Do not remove your underpants. After you undress, lay on the table under the sheet to wait for your massage. Your therapist will ensure you remain properly draped during the session. As each part of your body is massaged, it will be uncovered only until your therapist is finished. Genitals and women's breasts are never massaged and will remain covered at all times.
What to ExpectYou can expect a relaxing experience. Make sure you are honest with your therapist, inform them of any sore spots or pain. It is their goal to assure your comfort. During your massage the supervisor will briefly enter the room to observe the massage and answer any questions you may have.
Completing a Massage
Your therapist will inform you when your session is over and leave the room. Get up from the table slowly and take your time getting dressed. Massage is very relaxing, and you may need a moment to focus. You should feel wonderfully relaxed, and many of your aches and pains will have dissolved.
Following a Massage
After you are dressed you will be asked to complete a brief evaluation
on your therapist. Please do so honestly, as we value your feedback
to assist the student with their progress. As toxins are being released
from your body, you may experience mild flu-like symptoms the next
day. Do not be alarmed, this is natural. It is recommended that
you drink eight full glasses of water per day for the next two days
to prevent this. If you have any questions, feel free to call Irene's Michigan Massage school at (248) 350-1400!
